Never far from home

This reunion unexpected, last minute collected
Some friends that go back
High school pranks get full attention, proudly told without detention
Now lifelines to track

Our tiny wallet photos, spread like gypsy tarot cards
Tracing years spent apart
Through smiley-faced children, and tardy hindsight wisdom
Painful breaks of the heart

You could have dropped us back to1973
Same table of ladies, round a booth at Friendlys
30 years of living gone, same people and never far from home

A toast now to Donna, her wild sense of humor
We lost her last fall
So final that the moment, steals the time we’ve been enjoying
And makes all our worlds’ small

You could have dropped us back to1973
Same table of ladies, round a booth at Friendlys
30 years of living gone, same people and never far from home

By the end of the evening, just good-byes no more leaving,
Through thick and through thin
We share magnified glasses, to scribble down our address
Till we come home again

You could have dropped us back to1973
Same table of ladies, round a booth at Friendlys
30 years of living gone, same people and never far from home
30 years of living gone, same people and never far from home
